Port Perry Bulletin

Our Story

When everything stopped, something special began.

In March 2020, as the world came to a sudden halt, our small town, like so many others, found itself cut off.

Businesses closed their doors. Streets grew quiet. Families stayed home, unsure of what the future would bring.

The Covid-19 pandemic was unlike anything we had ever faced, and isolation became the new normal.

But out of that uncertainty came a spark… An idea to bring people together, even when we had to stay apart.

That’s how The Port Perry Bulletin was born.

What started as a simple Facebook page with just four members quickly became a lifeline for the community.

It was a place to share information when news was changing by the hour.
A place to find comfort in familiar faces and local voices.
A place where neighbours helped neighbours (whether it was tracking down hard-to-find groceries, recommending a local business trying to stay afloat, or just offering a few kind words on a tough day.)

The Bulletin filled a void no one expected to need, but everyone came to rely on. It connected us when everything else felt disconnected.

As Port Perry began to reopen and heal, something amazing happened: the Bulletin didn’t fade away. It grew.

Today, The Port Perry Bulletin is home to over 22,000 members.

A vibrant, engaged community that stretches across North Durham. What started as a survival tool during a crisis has evolved into a cornerstone of local life.

From business spotlights and event announcements to heartfelt stories, lost pets, and stunning sunrise photos, the Bulletin has become the digital town square for our region.

Our mission now is simple but powerful:

To make life in North Durham easier and more connected.

We’re here to celebrate what makes our community special:
Its people, its spirit, and its sense of togetherness.

Whether you’re searching for a trusted local service, looking to support a small business, planning your weekend around a community event, or simply sharing a slice of your day, the Bulletin is your space.

We believe in respect, kindness, and conversation. We believe that every voice matters. And we’re proud to offer a safe, welcoming place where ideas can flourish, differences can be respected, and everyone belongs.

As we move forward, we’re also growing beyond Facebook - Building this new web platform designed to better organize local information, promote businesses and services, and make it even easier for people to connect, exchange, and engage.

What began as a response to crisis has become a lasting symbol of community resilience.

So whether you’ve been with us from the very beginning or just joined recently: THANK YOU
